Funny Folker Jeff Stewart

Biography

Funny Folker is a singer/songwriter from the East Lancashire mill town of Colne, delivering comic songs and stories with a good dollop of nostalgia. Jeff has been entertaining people in one form or another for over 40 years, although the Funny Folker side of him has only surfaced since he started visiting local folk clubs in 2012.

In his formative years, Jeff enjoyed the music of Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver and Donovan but particularly liked the Northern “folkiness” of The Houghton Weavers, The Fivepenny Piece and The Oldham Tinkers. It was, however, the influence of the comedy “folkies” such as Mike Harding, Bernard Wrigley, Jasper Carrot and Richard Digance that set him on the path to where he is now.

His songs and stories of everyday life, are laced with the type of humour reminiscent of a saucy seaside postcard. The popularity of his songs, and encouragement from fellow “folkers”, has led to him performing at theatres, clubs, festivals and social gatherings throughout the Northwest and further afield.
